Penélope Cruz Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Penélope Cruz graces the May cover of Harper’s Bazaar, and in the interview, the actress opens up about juggling motherhood and career, talks about her family, fashion, her idol, Meryl Streep, and more.

See below for some highlights!

 On her idol, Meryl Streep:

“When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, that’s when I became obsessed with acting. Now I kiss her whenever I see her! She must think I’m crazy.”

 On juggling motherhood and career:

“Maybe I’ll make one movie a year, maybe two, but it’s not going to be more than that because I have other priorities now. I won’t go to places where you’re going to find more attention. I go to the opposite.”

On characterizing herself as a “worrier”:

“ I am living for every day and trying to have less fear, less worry. But I have always worried about everything; it’s in my nature. It’s the thing that makes me suffer the most.”

Of her red-carpet fashion choices:

”All I look for is to be able to breathe!”

Naomi Campbell Says “Carbs Are A Treat”

Naomi Campbell is featured in Harper’s Bazaar’s March issue, and inside the mag, she opens up about her past, and talks about her diet and beauty routine.

See below for some qutoes from her interview!

On her diet:

“For me, carbs are a treat now.”

On getting older:

“I don’t worry about a number, I’m fine with aging.”

On her past:

“Look, you have to make mistakes. That’s how you learn and that’s how the world works. I’ve made a few. What makes a person is the ability to look at themselves and deal with their own lives. How you deal [with your actions] is what defines you.”

While she’s made headlines for her antics and activism off the runway, Campbell, at her core, is still a supermodel:

“But I would never call myself that. I don’t have any superhuman powers. I still love what I do. It’s a new challenge to see how people can change your look. I like words like transformation, reinvention, and chameleon. Because one word I don’t like is predictable.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Gwyneth Platrow graces Harper’s Bazaar‘s March cover, and in the interview, she opens up about her husband, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, talks about her diet, her website, Goop, and more.

Check out some quotes from her spread, below!

On aging:

“I’ll take my wrinkles. I don’t like the Botox thing.”

On her diet:

“I eat whatever I want. I like bread and cheese and wine, and that makes my life fun and enjoyable.”

On Goop:

“Everything I’ve done has been completely organic, and that’s why the brand is a strong brand, because there is no ulterior motive behind it.”

On her husband, Chris Martin:

“He’s very communicative, which is rare for a British man. If I’m in L.A. for three days working, then my husband does the school run; it’s always one of us.”

On her marriage:

“I have little kids in school. I want to maintain my marriage and my family, so I have to be here when he comes home.”

She cites her father’s practical advice on the secret to a long-lasting marriage:

“My parents were married for 30-something years, and he said [it was] because they never wanted to get divorced at the same time. I think you do fall in and out of love and you just keep going, and every time you go through a really difficult phase, you rediscover something new and it just gets better. We’ve been married for more than eight years now, and we’re still into it.”

Madonna Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Madonna graces Harper’s Bazaar’s December cover,  and in the interview, the superstar speaks with Naomi Wolf about women, power, and sexuality.

For her new movie, W.E., Madonna was drawn to the subject precisely because of how polarizing a figure the Duchess of Windsor remains—an issue with which she identifies:

“When I brought up the subject of Wallis Simpson to people when I was living in England, I was astounded by the outrage that was provoked by her name. The movie is all about the cult of celebrity. We like to put people on a pedestal, give them one character trait, and if they step outside of that shrine-like area that we blocked out for them, then we will punish them. Wallis Simpson became famous by default, by capturing the heart of the king, but it’s obviously a subject I’m constantly on the inside of, and the outside of. I think my behavior and my lifestyle threaten a lot of social norms, like the movie does. I think there are a lot of parallels and connections.”

On her sense of self:

“I think it’s just that as a creative person, in all the different things that I’ve done or ways that I’ve found to express myself, I’ve consistently come up against resistance in certain areas. I think that the world is not comfortable with female sexuality. It’s always coming from a male point of view, and a woman is being objectified by a man—and even women are comfortable with that. But when a woman does it, ironically, women are uncomfortable with it. I think a lot of that has to do with conditioning.”

On escaping that conditioning:

“The fact that I didn’t have a mother helped me in some respect, and that I didn’t have a female role model. I was always very aware of sexual politics, growing up in a Catholic-Italian family in the Midwest, seeing that my brothers could do what they wanted but the girls were always told that they needed to dress a certain way, act a certain way. We were told to wear our skirts to our knees, turtlenecks, cover ourselves and not wear makeup, and not do anything that would draw attention.”

Beyonce Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Beyonce graces Harper’s Bazaar‘s November cover, and in the interview, the superstar opens up about her pregnancy, motherhood, marriage, her husband, Jay-Z, her fashion inspirations, and more.

Check out some highlights, below!

On pregnancy and motherhood:

“It was important to me that I gave myself time to focus on becoming the woman I want to be, building my empire, my relationship, and my self-worth, before I became a mother. Now God has blessed us with the ultimate.”

On her husband, Jay-Z:

“We have been together since I was 20 years old. We took our time and developed an unbreakable friendship before we got married. I admire his ability to inspire others. To me, Jay represents the American dream. Jay’s music has helped define our generation. All that he has overcome and worked to achieve gives millions hope that they can become whatever they want to be. I respect him so much; he is a great man and a great artist.”

In a rare moment of candor about their relationship, she continues:

“We focused three years on our marriage and found that it brought us an even stronger bond and connection. But like anything great and successful in your life, marriage takes hard work and sacrifice. It has to be something both you and your husband deeply want. The best thing about marriage is the amount of growth you have because you can no longer hide from your fears and insecurities. There’s someone right there calling you out on your flaws and building you up when you need the support. If you are with the right person, it brings out the best version of you.”

Beyoncé, like her hit single, is ready to run the world:

“I am finally at the stage in my life where I am not so concerned with other people’s opinions about my life decisions. It is so liberating to really know what I want, what truly makes me happy, what I will not tolerate. I have learned that it is no one else’s job to take care of me but me.”

Lady Gaga Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Lady Gaga graces Harper’s Bazaar’s October cover, posing basically barefaced and showing that her iconic look comes naturally.

Inside the issue, she confesses:

“Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside. I think what has been lovely about my relationship with the public is that they expect something unexpected from me.”

The songstress also comments on her body image:

“I’m very free-spirited. Even when I was a kid, I used to run around naked with the babysitter, driving her crazy.”

She attributes her body confidence to dancing, yoga and a good diet:

“I do yoga, I do Bikram and I run, and I eat really healthy. You know, my work sort of feeds me. I keep in shape by working hard.”

Gaga recently took up a new activity: surfing! She tried for the first time on a two-day vacation to Mexico in August, she revealed:

“I fell off a lot in the beginning, but one of the surfers said to me, ‘Now that you can stand up, just look into the future and enjoy the ride.’ I thought that was an interesting metaphor about life.”

Lea Michele Covers Harper’s Bazaar’s

Lea Michele is Harper’s Bazaar’s September covergirl, and inside the issue, the Glee star opens up about  her career plans, castmates, and her relationship with her boyfriend, Theo Stockman.

See below for some highlights from the interview!

On her career:

“I don’t stop. It’s my nature. People have to tell me to slow down. I plan on playing every role on Broadway. . . . I want to do movies, make music. Glee is only the beginning.”

She gets called out for her unconventional features all the time, but Lea doesn’t let it bother her; if anything, she’s used to it:

“How many managers told me, ‘Get a nose job. You’re not pretty enough’? But I proved them wrong.”

But Lea knows one of the ways to stay in the game is having a sense of humor. The Glee movie hits theaters in August:

“In 3-D, my nose is going to look fabulous.”

On rumors that she’s a diva like her character:

“People have to remember this is all new for us. We’re all reasonably young, except for Cory [Monteith], who’s old. I’ve learned some lessons. But people are going to say what they want to say. I know who I am, and I’m not perfect.”

Anne Hathaway Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Anne Hathaway graces Harper’s Bazaar’s August cover, and in the interview, the star opens up about love, career, fashion, her upcoming movie, One Day, and responds to James Franco’s comments about co-hosting the Oscars with her.

See below for some highlights!

Hathaway talks about co-hosting the Oscars and responds to James Franco’s comments:

“How did I take it?” she says mildly about Franco’s comments on Letterman. “I let James know that a whirling dervish is a more flattering comparison than a Tasmanian devil. I called him, and we e-mailed a bit. In the grand scheme of things, I got to have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I met great people, wore beautiful clothes. And I got to put on a show. I don’t see a downside. Anyone who disliked my personality probably disliked my personality before the Oscars.”

On her boyfriend, Adam Shulman:

“So far, it’s worked out great,” she says matter-of-factly, observing that she used to get caught up in the intensity of a romance. “Which has its wonderful side, of course,” she adds with a half shrug, “but also it was exhausting, and sometimes it would freak me out. Mellow doesn’t always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life.”
